DWELLING IN HIS PRESENCE
“You, O God, make known to me the path of life;
You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures
at Your right hand.” Psalm 16:11
The weeks leading up to the birth of our Savior are sacred to me. Drawing near to that Holy Night brings contemplation in my life that is stronger than any other season of the year. I begin decorating our home, playing Christmas music, and reminiscing over past memories. It is such a treasured time of year. For it is within the season of Christmas that we are reminded of love, joy and hope…those attributes of our Savior that truly radiate within us. It’s the love that draws men to Him. It’s the joy that comes forth, even within suffering…that overcomes. It is the hope in Christ that looks forward to eternity.
As I come to the conclusion of fully decorating for this beautiful season, I place the Nativity…the donkey, the lamb, the father, the mother…and then, the baby…front and center. The baby…the Christ…the Savior of all mankind. I look, I gaze, I wonder at this precious babe…THE One, given by God, the Father…to save the world. It is in this moment that I sense His presence. My heart stirs as the Holy Spirit reminds me of such a sacrifice. For, bound within this babe is the power to love, to forgive…and to save. No other life has had such power!
This season of Advent causes me to daily seek His presence. I begin to steady my walk (Galatians 5:16) with Him…abiding in His Word more and more. The Holy Spirit prompts me to set my mind on things above (Colossians 3:1-2) and set my heart on His desires. As my heart fills with thanksgiving, I rejoice and press on toward the goal set before me, submitting all things to Him. I commit to dwell on whatever is excellent and praise worthy, and run with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-2). You see, the world needs what we have as His children. For this is love…this is Jesus!
