Ladies’ Spring Brunch this Saturday, 10:30am

All women of the church are invited to the Spring Brunch this Saturday, April 12 at the church.  The brunch begins at 10:30am.  We are so excited to have Donna Evans as our guest speaker.  A Vestavia resident, Donna is known beyond our community as an author and Bible teacher and as a mother who daily faces the challenges of a caring for a special needs child. TODAY is the last day to make reservations for the brunch. Tickets are $5 each.  Call the church office today and make your reservation or email Kelsey Barrett in the church office.

Notice of Called Business Meeting, Sunday, April 13

There will be a Called Business Meeting on Sunday, April 13 at the close of each worship service to vote on these recommendations from the Deacons and the Church Council:

Recommendation 1:  The Deacons and Church Council recommend to the Church the creation of a special committee to be formed according to our church by-laws to be named the Church Needs Task Force to do the following: 

1. Guide the Deacons and Church Council in communicating the report of the Church Needs Assessment Committee to the congregation.
2. Suggest priorities and tasks to the Deacons and Church Council regarding the implementation of the findings of the Church Needs Assessment Committee. 

Recommendation 2:  The Deacons and Church Council recommend to the Church that acting jointly the Deacons and Church Council will determine when the created special committee’s work is concluded and dismiss the special committee.

Easter Flowers

If you would like to purchase flowers for Easter in honor or in memory of a loved one, potted hydrangeas are for sale. The flowers are $20 each and will be part of our decorations for Easter Sunday.  If you would like to order one or more hydrangeas, please contact Kelsey Barrett in the church office, 969-1236.  You may also place your order in person at the church on Sunday.  Please look for Sherry Glover at a table in the hallway.  She will be glad to take your order and check. Quantities are limited!

Celebrating Holy Week

  • Palm Sunday, April 13 - 8:30am & 11:00am worship services

  • Approaching Easter in Prayer- Wednesday, April 16, 6pm in the Sanctuary.  We will forgo our usual Wednesday night format and instead, spend this hour in prayer.  All are welcome.

  • Make plans to attend the Maundy Thursday service at the church, Thursday, April 17.  Come and go as you please from 5:30-7:30pm. 

  • We will have our regular worship schedule and Bible Study Group on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.  Please consider attending the early worship service to make room for our guests who tend to come to the 11:00am service.

  •  LPBC Youth Yard Sale Fundraiser - Saturday, April 26, 8am-2pm - As you begin to do clean out your closets, attics, and basements, consider donating your items to the youth for our first “Spring Cleaning” Fundraiser Yard Sale.  We are collecting donations from the congregation to use as items for our sale.  All proceeds will help offset the costs for our summer trips.  Need more information?  Contact Wesley Braswell, 251-490-9261 (cell).

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions

One hundred percent of dollars given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering go to support the thousands of missionaries and their ministries in the United States and Canada.  Our goal as a church is to give $11,000 to contribute to this offering.  To date, $5,718 has been given.

Quarterly Business Meeting Date Changed

The next quarterly church business meeting will be Wednesday, April 23 at 6pm. 

Birmingham Bible Reading Marathon, April 27-May 1, 2014

We are excited to kick off our fourth year of the Birmingham Bible Reading Marathon, an international, annual event where people, young and old, read the entire Bible (Genesis through Revelation) aloud for 90 continuous hours, without commentary.  Each volunteer will read aloud for 15 minutes and then pass the reading, like a baton, to the next person.  Approximately 360 volunteers are required to complete the reading of the entire Bible. The National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 1, 2014

The National Day of Prayer will be observed in conjunction with the Birmingham Bible Reading Marathon on Thursday, May 1, at Southside Baptist Church, 1016 19th Street. South.  Please join us for Scripture reading until 11:30am followed by prayer and refreshments. 

Vacation Bible School is June 2-6, 2014

Register your children (and grandchildren) for VBS and sign up to work all at the same place - HERE!  This year’s theme is Agency D3 - Discover Decide Defend (1 Peter 3:15).  There is no charge to attend VBS, however there is a $10 charge per person for the VBS t-shirt.  VBS is open to all children who will be 4 years old by September 1, 2014 through those who have completed fifth grade by May 2014.
